there's a song that's inside of my soul

I wrote this on February 7, 2006 in sophomore year of college for a religion class. It's amazing how I still feel this way about God, a little more than two years later.

In my experiences, God has always been (and still is) a constant in my life. He is a spiritual being that dwells in my heart as well as appears in everything around me. He is always there, making sure I am following the path he has chosen for my life. I see and feel God in many ways – in my parents, in the friends I see every day, and in daily activities. God is everything to me. He is the air I breathe and the scents I smell; he is the music I play and the music I listen to. He is the life-long friends I’ve made and the strangers I will meet. God is all around me: in people, in objects, in thoughts and ideas. To me, God does not have a face or a body, because he comes in all different forms. There is the popular belief that God is Jesus and vice versa. While on some degree I believe that, I also disagree with that belief. God appears in different forms, different ways, and in different people that I meet every day.

I feel God daily in my life a lot, but I especially feel him when I think about my grandparents (Oma and Opa), and when I think about music. Some people might be angry with God when a loved one dies, and I admit, I have felt that way before. But I also thank God that they are not suffering anymore, and I feel that it was His decision that they belonged in a better place. I feel God when I am with Oma, my grandmother. She is such an amazing and strong woman, and she took care of Opa for the last couple of years of his life, when he was sick. They were both people of faith, and Opa tried to go to go to mass for as long as he was able to, even when his accessibility was in a wheel chair. They both have strong beliefs and values of the Catholic faith, and have always set great examples for their children and grandchildren. After my Opa passed away, Oma became an even stronger person because of her faith in God, and it has reflected upon me, as well as other members in my family. Every time that I spend time with her, I feel God’s presence with us, in her life and in mine.

Every time I am performing music, I feel God’s presence in my life as well. I believe that God gave me the gift of music, and I try to use it to the best of my abilities, because I know that is what he would want for me. Performing is an incredible feeling, and I feel that God is usually right there beside me when I’m playing an instrument for an audience. I believe that it is God who is able to give me that feeling of accomplishment; that my belief in him helps to trigger the sense of feeling that I have reached out to someone in the audience that I perform for.

I believe that I am here in this world for a reason. I am not quite sure yet what that reason is, but I am on a continuous search to find out. I think that every day, I learn another small bit of information on why I am actually here, and why God has created me. God has a plan for me, and I hope that I am able to carry out that life according to his plan in the grand scheme of life.

oh say can you see

My acapella group sang the National Anthem at the NY Islanders game on Thursday evening! You can check it out here:

And before we actually sang, we hung out around the arena and started coloring pictures at the designated "Kids Table," and some of us also had our picture taken with Sparky, the mascot (who has a broken hockey stick for a tail!).

Then yesterday it snowed. It snowed so much that my school gave us a snow day. Unfortunately, I don't have class on Friday, and my mom was on mid-February break, so it was a waste of a snow day. I didn't even have to go to work anyway! But dad and I cancelled our dentist appointments because we weren't going anywhere. Instead, we shoveled. A lot. We shoveled my sidewalk, part of my neighbors' sidewalks, my Oma's sidewalk, and the apartment houses sidewalk. I'm shoveled out! And then last night, for dinner, since it's Lent and we don't eat meat on Fridays, mom made Pfannekuchen. Yummmmmmmmmy!

you are always trying to keep it real, I'm in love with how you feel

Amanda, Kim, and I found out we have another person in our room on the London trip. Her name is Laura....and SHE KICKS ASS! She's so cool and very sweet, and we already get along so well (and I've only talked to her over facebook and aim). We're definitely going to have so much fun in London. I can't wait....as of midnight, it'll be 22 days until London!

Anyways....in school today, Amanda and I were hangin' around and we were jamming to Moldy Peaches tunes.....and we had Olivia record us. We're pretty amazing, I must say. We're starting a folk cover band called the Fuzzy Apples (hmmm.....folk cover band.... sounds like......... The Twinstrels? SORRY LIZ! I just never see you anymore so we never have time to sing pretty harmonies and jam on Hanson tunes).

Anyway, here's how we rock out Moldy Peaches style.

look for the girl with the broken smile, ask her if she wants to stay awhile

I hate Valentine's Day. I don't know why it exists. Why do couples have to celebrate their love on one designated day, when they basically have every other day to proclaim their love to each other. I had no one to celebrate it with. Instead, I spent the day at school, and out at Panera and TGI Friday's with some friends, and ended the night practicing the Star-Spangled Banner with my a cappella group because we're singing at the Islander game sometime this week. It's gonna rock!

But anyway. Some pictures from this week.

Roses my dad got my mom for Valentine's Day

The tin of goodies I got mom and dad for Valentine's Day

The yummy goodness inside the tin :)

The tulips my sister sent to my parents for Valentine's Day

The high school that my drum corps. practices at sometimes has all these props on the stage from their theatre department, and they have this huge Audrey II on the stage that creeps us out and makes us laugh at the same time. We had to take a picture of it before it disappeared...

chickety china, the chinese chicken

My friend Amanda and I are going to Panera tomorrow for lunch, and I told our friend Kim I'd pick up something for her so she can eat on our way to the mall. When I asked what she wanted, I didn't have any paper around to write it down, so I used the back of one of my dollar bills.

This gave me an idea for a little while, but I don't know. Maybe I don't have a point to this idea. Anyway...

I just need a little of your time

I'm that girl that will totally rock the bags $20 and less, because I'm not cheap, I'm just poor. And some cute bags really are $20 or less!

But I also am willing to shell out $48 for a Coach wristlet. Because I really want one. Because it's really pretty (even if it's just all black). And because it totally goes against mostly everything I've ever thought. Although, I've said I would never pay for a designer bag, but I would use it if someone got it for me. And if I ever DID get a designer bag, I'd go with Coach. But the wristlet is relatively cheap, it's adorable, and it's practical. It will have responsibilities! It will have duties to fulfill!

I'm totally getting it.

here in this town they have all got the blues

So, that was a real shock today, when I'm half-listening to the news at dinner and I hear Heath Ledger is found dead in his NY apartment.
I liked Heath Ledger! He was an amazing actor...so versatile...and basically just coming into his prime. He had so much to offer the acting world, and he's gone. Basia and I were saying, we wanted to grow old watching his movies. He really was just that kind of person, you know?

The first movie I saw with Heath Ledger was "A Knight's Tale" and I always think of my sister when I think of that movie, because we used to watch it on HBO whenever it was on. Even if we caught it in the middle, we'd watch the movie, because it was awesome, and we loved the fact that it was set in older times, but with modern music. It's just one of those things I'll always connect with my sister, and now that link is dead.

Rest In Peace, Heath Ledger. You were simply amazing.

we are the future

listen to the sound of my voice
can you feel the beat of my heart?
listen to the questions I have
listen to me
it's all very simple
to see what we need

give us hope
my voice is calling
can you see?
look in my eyes
can you feel?
my hand is reaching
give us hope
and we'll show you the way...

listen to the sound of my voice
can you feel the beat of my heart?
listen to the questions I have
listen to me
we are the future
help us believe

give us hope
my voice is calling
can you see?
look in my eyes
can you feel?
my hand is reaching
give us hope
and we'll show you the way

take my hand
now look in my eyes
tell me what you see...

give us hope
my voice is calling
can you see?
look in my eyes
can you feel?
my hand is reaching
give us hope
and we'll show you the way

give us hope
my voice is calling
can you see?

my hand is reaching
give us hope
